Microtis

Microtis is a small genus, about 9 species, of terrestrial orchids found in East Asia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands. (Common name onion orchids)

They plants are deciduous with a single cylindrical leaf. The flower spike is tall and upright with dozen of tiny mostly greenish blooms at the top.

The tuberoids rest in summer, new shoots appear in autumn, flowering occurse early spring.

Although the flowers are cross-pollinated by ants and set seed without any problems, division is the choice of propagation.

Not the easiest orchids to grow.
