Imidacloprid

Imidacloprid is a nicotine-based (Chloro-nicotinyl) systemic insecticide. It is readily taken up by the plant and is re-distribut further to all parts of the plant. Shows good root-systemic action and is one of the best insecticides today; however, it is slightly toxic.

It works by interfering with the nervous system (neurotoxin) of the insects. In plain English, it blocks the neuronal pathway of the insects and that leads to the insects's paralysis and death.

It is used to control most "sucking" insects like aphids, thrips, mealybugs, weevil and some beetles. Allegedly, it can control boisduval scale.

Imidacloprid can be found under numerous registered names, like: Confidor, Premier, Marathon, etc.
