Tree fern

Tree Ferns are popular potting medium for orchids because they decompose slowly and aerates well; however, they does not retain water. Some tree ferns are better than others.

Tree fern is available as shredded fibres, chips or as slabs. Round slabs, cut like “stepping stones”, are very popular with soft cane orchid growers.

Tree fern products are rather rare and expensive. Other media do a better job for less.
